who we are

Early Stage Researchers

Marta Jordao

What is your project/research about?

On my project I am focusing on the role of different myeloid cell types during the pathology of Multiple Sclerosis and how these cells are linked to distinct phases of the disease. With this study we hope to find out which is/are the critical counterparts involved in the course of the pathology and to identify specific markers that might lately contribute for MS therapy.

Why did you apply for a Marie Curie ITN and especially this project?

I applied for the Marie Curie ITN due to its prestigious and well-recognized effort in supporting the beginning of a research career of young scientists. Coming from the neuroscience field I wanted to learn more about immunology and how the immune system responds under disease and the project that I selected seemed to be exactly the challenge that I was looking for.

What is so fascinating for you on research in general?

The challenge of solving a biological problem and go beyond what is known and the constant influx of new techniques and findings that oblige you to keep up with this fast world.

What do you do in your free time?

During my free time besides spending time with my friends and family I like to read and to attend to different dance classes.

What are your plans for your future?

For the future I would like to continue in academia and pursue a research career.

Regarding our meetings:

Please give a short summary what you remember about are Network Meetings?

The Network meetings are a great opportunity to get feedback from the researchers belonging to the network, experts in the field, about our project. Together with the workshops that are provided, these meetings give us important tools and ideas to successfully continue our research.

What are the impressions and learnings you take with you from each meeting?

From our meetings I found very interesting not only notion of the “grandmother´s talk” which made us aware of how important and difficult it is to be able to communicate science but also the existing regulations about ethics in research.

What was the most useful workshop?

The most useful workshop was the biostatistics since it refreshed my knowledge about which statistical tests should be applied considering the parameters that I´m planning to analyze.
